3 Under Prioritized Wedding Investments | Petal and Veil

There’s always a budget, but where do you invest?!

Every piece of your wedding day is a reflection of you and your fiance’s vision and taste. With so many elements that go into making the day perfect, it can be hard to prioritize one over the other. One way to do this is to make a list of all the different wedding investments and pick three that matter most to you and your fiancé. The winners of this game usually end up somewhere between food, alcohol, music, and venue. All of which are big contributors to the experience of your wedding.

We’re making a case for three investments that might not rank highly upon first consideration, but here’s why they should:

Photography

The only tangible things you get to take with you from your wedding day are your new husband and your photographs. You’ll spend so much time and money on the different elements of the day, so be sure you invest in a talented photographer with an eye for detail to capture every moment that you can relive via photographs for years to come.

PROTIP: WeddingWire is a great resource for locating local talent and comparing prices. Be sure to check out photographers’ online galleries to get a sense of their artistic style and pick one that compliments yours.

Dress and Veil

If you’re looking for that unmistakable “take your breath away,” first-look-feeling from dad, fiance, and every single one of your wedding guests, then don’t forget to budget accordingly for your dress and veil. These two garments are the hallmark of a bride and will be unlike anything that’s ever graced your closet before – or after – your wedding day.

PROTIP:

Every wedding budget has a line item for “dress” – but brides sometimes forget to account for the veil. Be sure to consider these two sums together so unexpected expenses don’t dampen your dress shopping experience or break the budget.

A veil is the ultimate bridal accessory and we highly recommend trying one on with any dress that could be “the one.” Even if you’re ready to commit to the dress, hold off on buying the veil. Veils from a bridal salon can be expensive and you can find higher quality veils at a better value online. The salon would have to order it for you online anyway – so don’t limit yourself to the only styles they offer.

Flowers

Sprawling greenery, tumbling bouquets, and gorgeous blooms are becoming decor statement pieces, appearing in more places than just bridal bouquets and reception tables. Flower arrangements can create an ethereal feeling, enhancing the most special moments of your day – not to mention they’re super photogenic.

PROTIP: Still not convinced flowers are worth a top ranking spot in the budget? Here’s how to save so you can skimp a little:

  1. Ask your florist what blooms are local and in season for your date. This will cut down on cost while ensuring you have the freshest flowers.
  2. Repurpose your bridal and bridesmaid bouquets as centerpieces for your reception tables. This will be one of those times that having a giant wedding party actually results in cost savings…
  3. If you limit to two blooms and seasonal greenery your florist might be able to buy in bulk – reducing cost.
