A Case for a First Look

There are many reasons that couples go back and forth about a first look but we are here to tell you why we love them so much! Because I (Kiera) was a bride just a short two years ago, I thought I would explain from that perspective why a first look is so awesome!

1) Rid Yourself of Nerves!

I am usually a pretty anxious person anyways, but on a day I had been planning for for over 6 months, I knew I would be a wreck. And the one person that can surely calm me down? Tim! I knew I wouldn’t make it to the ceremony if I didn’t get to see him, to speak to him. Getting to have time together before the awesome but also the craziness that is a wedding was so so so important!!

2) Be Excited Together

Your wedding is such an exciting day! You have spent so much time planning and now it is here! Your first look allows you the time to see each other and be excited about the fact that you are about to be married!!! Most couples don’t think about the fact that when you walk down the aisle you can’t say “oh my gosh, we are getting married!!” There are a 100+ people looking at you and you are getting married RIGHT NOW.  The first look is an intimate time for just the two of you. To take a minute to yourselves and be excited about the amazing day ahead of you. It is truly such a special moment! I was so happy to have time to just be excited with Tim. To take a moment and just think about what this day really meant!

3) More Time with Guests

When you do a first look, that allows us to get so many pictures out of the way before the ceremony. This means that afterwards, you can spend so much more time with your friends and family who traveled to see you. For many of us, we haven’t seen some of these people in years. You will want this time with them!

These are just a few of the awesome benefits of a first look, but I think they are so important!!

Before I go, I wanted to cover one more thing! We often hear “but I want to see (insert Groom’s name hear) cry as I walk down the aisle.” Well I am here to tell you you can have both. If your groom is emotional and is going to cry when you walk down the aisle, chances are he will still do that! The first look and walking down the aisle both bring about so many different emotions. During your first look, your groom won’t be able to keep himself together when he sees how gorgeous you look in your wedding dress! But he also won’t be able to keep himself together when he sees you walk down the aisle towards him because he is thinking “OH MY GOSH, WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!” They are two different moments and they both merit and emotional response. Here is the perfect example below from Ashleigh and Chandler’s wedding.
