Last month we had a styled wedding shoot at The White Sparrow in Dallas, Texas that was an absolute dream.
This. This is why I love being a wedding photographer. Coming together with so many vendors to make a vision come to life.
As I’ve been sharing these photos over social media, people have been asking “why do a styled shoot?” or “what is the purpose?”. Sometimes in the wedding industry you get stuck doing the same ole’ thing time and time again. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting to create photos for someone’s special wedding day, see their vision and capture it for them! But that’s the thing, it is their vision. In a styled shoot, we get a full day of trying something new, scary, and crossing our fingers that it works out. On a bride’s wedding day, you can’t tell her, “go lay in the grass and let me wave this veil over your face” or “we are going to spend 30 minutes with you in front of this door getting creative!”. No one wants that! But when you hire models (AKA awesome friends), and you have all the time in the world (or until the sun sets), you can play! And for an artist, this is a dream come true! Every vendor that participated got to try something they’ve never done before. My favorite thing about styling a shoot: there is no wrong! It’s hard going against the normal fads, so when someone tells you “do something crazy”, you jump up and down with excitement and comply!
Now for the best part. Almost all of these vendors give back through their business! We are huge advocates for purchasing items that are made fair trade or socially conscious, so working with others that believe in making this world a better place is the best. Whether it be through fair trade products, volunteering their time, or giving profits back to charity, these guys have a heart of gold.
